Tariq Oluokun (born May 1, 2001), better known as TAR1Q (TAH-reek), is a Nigerian singer-songwriter signed to Chocolate City Music . He’s most notable for his passionate storytelling, stage presence, and an uncanny ability to merge diverse genres. He is blessed with silky, smooth and strong vocals.
His musical style, which he terms ‘Afro Soul’ is a seamless blend of contemporary Afrobeats, Pop, Hip-Hop and classic R&B. In the same vein, he draws inspiration from Sade, Kwam1, Chris Brown, Wizkid, and J. Cole and names them as core influences on his artistry. Born in Benin city, he discovered his love for music at the young age of 12. In 2018, he decided to pursue music as a career and took a chance and began experimenting with his sound. First as a trapper, enjoying putting lyrics together and creating a special flow, then he evolved to enjoy making melodies and chants, which he has combined to create a unique and stirring sound.
He’s started the year 2024 on a highnote with a final transition from NU-Trybe to Chocolate City Music, further elevating his artistry and musical reach to attain more listeners and new heights. TAR1Q went ahead to release his debut single under the entertainment giant. This single titled “Jigga” featuring fellow young act Khaid.
On this single, the dynamic duo TAR1Q and Khaid explore the highs and pitfalls of love and brotherhood while exemplifying their prowess as bastions of the new school of Afrobeats. TAR1Q released his “Jigga” Remix pack consisting of 6 songs with several exciting African & European features like Titai, Darko Vibes, Ricky Tyler, Musa Keys, FADÍ, Paulo Chakal, Kikimoteleba and more. He embarked on African tour meeting his excited fans in Ghana & Sierria Leone to further broaden his community. This African tour & Remix pack release not only highlights the pan-African and global love for “Jigga”, but also put TAR1Q on a pedestal as one of Afrobeats’ most promising voices expanding his artistry and star power on the world stage while honoring the song that continues to connect people across borders.
