The “Queen of the Streets” title is firmly and undoubtedly occupied by Candy Bleakz. A moniker given to her among others such as “Lady’s Dragon” because of her swift penmanship and lyrical prowess as a street hop Artist. Prior to this, Candy Bleakz was a quiet kid; born Blessing Akiode, on August 5, 1999. Her passion for music started while in the church choir at the age of eight, but it was not until she won a school competition while filling in for an absentee performer that her passion for music as a career was sparked. Slowly began writing lyrics, recording lyrics and participating in more talent shows to hone her craft.
In 2016 after winning the Lagos Got Talent show, Candy was introduced to MI Abaga, Chocolate City’s then CEO, and an adept producer. She shared some of the songs that she had recently recorded, and he watched her perform at the Felabration Concert held at the Shrine in honor of the late Fela Anikulapo Kuti where she took home the award as the Best Rapper in her category. Later that year she was invited to perform for Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, the Lagos State Governor and later that year she was signed to Chocolate City under the imprint Street Billionaires.
After the merger with Warner Music, the Label revised its roster, and the Street Billionaires imprint was affected by the downsizing. All the Artists were dropped, but Candy Bleakz was retained as a solo act and unveiled in 2020 with her first debut single under the new deal, “Kelegbe”. Later that year she released “Won La”, which got her nominated for Best Female rapper at the Africa Music Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA), and has since been licensed on the Showtime Comedy TV Series, “Flatbush Misdemeanors” Ep 103.
CandyBleakz 2025 is one for the books with consistent releases of several singles including “sinner”, “Sinner Remix” featuring Street-pop artist Rybeena. She has put on a great show with the relase of “Reality” featuring Terry Apala. REALITY is an anthem for dreamers and hustlers navigating the ups and downs of everyday life. It speaks to the struggles, wins, and survival instincts of young Nigerians chasing success against all odds.
